The Concept – Picnic Wednesday
Hi, we’re Kristin and Tom! We started this site to share a concept that began during the Spring of 2016. A little about us: we’re two working young professionals in our mid-twenties living in Boston, MA. We love to travel, be spontaneous, eat, drink, and are always on a quest for a good deal and a great time.
Our First Picnic
Tired of the monotonous work week and wanting a cheap date night, we decided one fateful Wednesday night to have a picnic. Our first picnic: slices of NY style pizza and a wooden picnic table at a small park near my apartment. It was a magical night full of stuffing our faces with pizza, watching dogs run around, catching the end of a little league game, and just soaking in life. After that, we fell in love with the idea of making use of Boston’s lovely “Emerald Necklace” (green areas around the city, supposedly forming a shape like a necklace) and trying to picnic weekly.
We not-so-creatively called this idea “Picnic Wednesday” and fully embraced it. It was an awesome way to get outside of our cramped Boston apartments, enjoy the weather, and check out new neighborhoods, all while saving money we could be spending at pricey Boston restaurants. We even started to tell people at work. Everybody knew when Wednesday rolled around that I was out of the office by 6. Thursday morning came with greetings of “How was Picnic Wednesday?”
Travel and Picnic Wednesday
Later that year brought a few different trips: Budapest in May and Montreal in July. During these trips, totally embraced the #picnicwednesday lifestyle. We drew so much inspiration from the local markets and loved every second perusing the boundless fresh fruits and round wheels of cheeses to choose the perfect combo for our picnic later that day. We realized that picnicking is not only so fun to do locally, but the perfect tourist experience. It exposes you to where the locals shop, allows you to take advantage of the well-used public parks, and saves money on the tourist trap restaurants that many often fall victim to.
We started this site to share our passion with others for this concept that we love so much. Picnicking has really allowed us to savor the moment and brought excitement to the day-to-day grind. It has also rejuvenated our love for travel—something that we hope to do much more of in the coming months and years.
We will be posting about not only our picnicking experiences around Boston, but our general travel experiences and advice for living in the moment.
In a society of smart phones and social media, our goal is to spread the #picnicwednesday life to others to allow them to live in the present. It is so important to enjoy where you are and who you’re with, because in the end that’s really what matters.
Please have a look around the site, introduce yourself, and let us know what you think about our concept. We would love to hear from you!
